Ginette Renois a celebrated singer, actor, and cultural icon whose powerful voice and heartfelt performances have defined the chanson québécoise for more than six decades. Born on April 28, 1946, in Montreal, Quebec, Reno has become a living legend, transcending generations and borders to inspire admiration and emotion among audiences in Canada and internationally.

Often referred to as “La Reno” or “Quebec’s golden voice,” Reno’s career is a testament to her exceptional artistry and enduring appeal. Over the course of her storied career, she has released more than 2,000 songs and 42 albums. Her repertoire, consisting primarily of sentimental ballads, showcases her rich, expressive voice and undeniable talent. Singing effortlessly in both French and English, she has performed on some of the world’s most iconic stages, from Place des Arts in Montreal to the Olympia in Paris.

2022

On her 76th birthday, Reno is made a Chevalière of the Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur de France.

2008

Renos delivers and iconic performance of “Un peu plus haut, Un peu plus loin” with Dion for Quebec City’s 400th anniversary.

1999

Reno is awarded the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts.

1982

Reno is appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, recognizing her significant contributions to Canadian music.

1981

Reno co-hosts the JUNO Awards with pianist and recording artist, Frank Mills.

1977

Reno establishes her own record company, Melon-Miel. Her LP Je ne suis qu’une chanson (1979) becomes her greatest hit and one of the most popular ever in Quebec.

1974

She achieves a major English-language hit with “Beautiful Second Hand Man,” reaching No. 8 on the RPM singles chart.

Quick Fact

In 1982, at the age of 36, Ginette became the youngest performer inducted into the Order of Canada when she was named an Officer.

1964

Reno is recognized as the “female discovery” at the 1964 Gala des artistes and achieves great success with her hit song “Tu vivras toujours dans mon cœur” that same year.

1962

Reno releases her debut self-titled album at the age of 16, which became an instant bestseller, launching her career in entertainment.
